Along our journey in this life, we have lived innumerable experiences, both joyful and hurtful, sometimes deeply meaningful and sometimes traumatic. With all our commitments and responsibilities and the sometimes difficult and painful circumstances of life, we can lose the balance between taking care of ourselves and taking care of others, work and the world.
Sometimes worry becomes anxiety, sadness becomes depression, restlessness becomes insomnia, minds become filled with unhelpful thoughts, and avoidant behaviors meant to protect us from suffering only become obstacles to the change we need in our lives. Sometimes the stresses of work, family, and life result in neglecting our own health and wellness. Sometimes the circumstances of our lives, such as loss, trauma, or chronic/life limiting illness, exposes deep vulnerability and uncertainty.
As a psychotherapist, I value being compassionate, supportive, flexible, actively-engaged, and focused on the individual needs and goals of my clients. I have chosen to train in a range of therapeutic methods to help clients understand what they need to do to create change in their lives, to improve health and functioning, and to pursue what is valued most in life. These methods include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy teaches mindfulness and acceptance skills along with behavior-change strategies to promote psychological health.
I have been licensed as a clinical psychologist in Colorado since 1991. I received the Doctor of Psychology degree (PsyD) from Wright State University, School of Professional Psychology in 1988. I worked as a staff psychologist at Kaiser Permanente for 28 years from 1991 to 2019. I now see clients in my part-time private practice.
May you discover what you truly value in life and pursue what matters most with passion and vigor. May you risk your heart to love and be loved, deeply. May you live a long life with abundance of health and joy.
