Laurie Tonelli

As a licensed psychologist, I specialize in individual therapy, couples counseling, and family therapy. I received my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Denver. During graduate school and the years that followed, I conducted research alongside renowned psychologists examining couple and family communication. I have extensive experience treating couples, families, adults, adolescents, and children. I also served as a supervisor of an outpatient program in Denver.

I am a wife and mother of four children. I grew up in Colorado and have been married for more than 25 years. I am a Christian. While I leave it to individuals, couples, and families as to whether they would like to discuss their spiritual and religious beliefs, I am always open to exploring those beliefs as avenues of healing.

I have experience providing therapy for individuals with varying issues from many different backgrounds and walks of life. Improving communication, reducing conflict, and building empathy is always a focus of couples counseling and family therapy. Relational patterns are also explored in individual therapy, and the person’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are examined to improve well-being.

Ultimately, I work with clients to personalize a treatment plan that fits their needs and goals for therapy. I draw from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy, and other systems interventions to bring about desired changes. I truly believe when individuals commit themselves to positive change, they are able to overcome obstacles and experience their past, present, and future in a way that brings healing and hope.
